DivorceCare for Kids
August 19 - November 25 | St Aidan's Anglican Church
DivorceCare for Kids is a program for children aged 5–12 years who are experiencing divorce or separation. Our next DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) group will start on 19 August 2018 at 3:30pm – 5pm at the church. The group will meet each Sunday afternoon for 13 weeks until 25 November 2018, with a two-week break in the school holidays (30 September and 7 October).
DC4K provides your children with a safe and neutral place to gain an age-appropriate understanding of divorce and separation. Your children might be feeling angry, hurt, sad, scared or confused. They might be hiding their feelings because they’re worried about your happiness or because they do not know how to express them appropriately. At DC4K, they will learn to process and share their feelings. It will give them the tools to be able to communicate better with you.
What to expect
DC4K runs for 13 weeks with each week centred around a new theme. Each session is full of games, fun activities, arts and crafts, stories, exercises, videos and music to help your children process the divorce or separation and move forward in their lives. The leadership team all have a genuine concern for your children and will seek to encourage and build relationships with them throughout the course. All members of the team have Working With Children Checks and have completed the Anglican Diocese of Sydney’s Safe Ministry Training.
The weekly topics include:
- What’s happening to my family?
- God loves children in all kinds of families
- Facing my anger
- Journey from anger to sadness
- I am not alone
- God’s plan for me
- Developing new relationships
- Developing money smarts
- It’s not my fault
- Telling my parents how I feel
- Loving my parents
- Moving on: Growing up and closer to God
